I recently switched from Windows to Ubuntu, a linux based operating system. I am enjoying the move, and have found there is all sorts of programs that cross platform. I see ubuntu and mac's as the platform for developers, I see tis because of the software for them. There are things you can tweak all over the place and the ability to have work stations and other neat little features. What do you think of ubuntu?

I really like Ubuntu since it's a mix of Mac and Windows but is mainly a Windows UI. I use it on Virtual PC though so my experience isn't as good since I don't want to be dedicated to it on my PC and I don't want to risk dual booting. However so far from my experience with Ubuntu I'm loving it!

I've been using Ubuntu for a long time now , It's simple to use as you get to know more about the UI and the programs ofcourse are always simple, after a while of messing with the grub , terminal , you can get to know even more :D .. it's really fun to explore different Linux based systems , they come in varieties

I like/use Ubuntu because it has a nice GNOME GUI, comes packaged with useful software, steady releases, great community, it's based off Debian (stability, apt, etc), minds its manners (resources), and doesn't make it hard for me to whip right back into a cozy terminal. All at the same time.

GNOME GUI? Could you explain that bit please along with: "and doesn't make it hard for me to whip right back into a cozy terminal" and "it's based off Debian"(really I mean there what is Debian?)

Ubuntu doesn't try to hide that it's Linux. It keeps everything a developer might need still fairly accessible while being easy enough to use for someone who wouldn't need those tools.
